L'Atypique ('Atypical') Skin-contact Pinot Gris.
From the BioGro certified organic 'Tosq' Vineyard in Mt Pisa, Central Otago, the hand harvested fruit was destemmed into two small open-top fermenters and kept on its skins for 38 days. Pressed off then matured in aged French oak barriques for 20 months, the wine was bottled unfiltered, unfined (vegan) and with just 15 mg/L sulphites added only at bottling. Aged for a further year in bottle before release.
A very fine and mature style of orange wine, the fruit is rich, the tannins are chalky and very present but the wine is beautifully integrated from 1 1/2 years in barrel and a further year in bottle... without a doubt one of New Zealand's best examples of orange wine!
