Tasting Note: Our Pinot Gris is grown by Phillip Barber in the Esk Valley. Esk Valley enjoys a maritime influence where the hot dry summer days experience a cooling sea breeze in the late afternoon. The soils are deep alluvial river sands and stone, left behind by the Esk River. Phillip farms his land with the upmost respect for everything above and below the ground. The vines are dry farmed with no herbicides used in the vineyard, and he is currently working towards organic registration. Off dry, with lots of stonefruit, citrus, and fresh Turkish Delight. Fine, refreshing acidity and loads of texture – this is the perfect summer time Gris.
Winemaking Notes: Fermented with 58W3 yeast, the highly aromatic 2020 was fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks. 5 months of batonage, before being bottled, unfined.
Variety: Pinot Gris
Region: Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand
