92/100 – Jamie Goode (2019 vintage)
Tasting Note: Laser-like purity. Plenty of substance and texture without weight. Finishes dry and clean, in such a good way. Ripe and naturally balanced with flavours tending towards the citrus spectrum. The 2022 growing season marked the end of a string of drought-like seasons in Marlborough. Abundant rain over the winter of 2021 continued into spring but with above average temperatures. A warmer and drier November and December promoted good flowering and fruit set across all varieties, followed by a warm settled period with above average temperatures through January. Ripeness across all varieties was tracking well ahead of average with solid yields across the region. February saw a change to easterly weather patterns and with this intermittent rain which continued through the key harvest period from early-March to mid-April.
Winemaking Notes: The grapes were gently pressed and the juice allowed to ferment to dryness with indigenous yeast, in small stainless steel tanks. The wine remained on lees through winter and spring, when it was then racked and allowed to settle in tank, with a light filtration prior to bottling February 2023.
